2016: Year of the Movies?

“My name is Bond. James Bond.” Each year the entertainment industry blesses us with movies. Some leave a larger impression than others and 2015 was a year that left an impression that is hard to rival. Luckily, 2016 is also a year that promises great movies.

For those Marvel fans in the community, Captain America: Civil War is the ideal weekend plan. Although Captain America and Iron man never saw eye to eye, they struggle to remain companions, after the government interferes with the Avengers. This new development is said to add many new twists in the plotline of the Avengers.

X-men Apocalypse is also a highly anticipated movie by Marvel.  As the timeline advances, Apocalypse, an extremely dangerous and powerful mutant, rises from his centuries of sleep and convinces Magneto and other mutants to assist his attempt to rule the world. Of course when in time of crisis, Professor Xavier and a young Mystique gather the X-men to save the world once again. Although it is an exciting plot, fans are disappointed that Hugh Jackman will not be in the movie.

Movies like Ghosbusters are also some movies that fans are looking forward to. While there have been many arguments against the remake of the 1984 classic, the times have progressed, and people support the idea of more female roles in the classics, thus the all-female cast in the upcoming Ghosbusters film.

Suicide Squad is also highly anticipated since the comic has been a favorite of many. Fans are also excited to witness the great portrayal of characters by the all-star celebrity cast–some of which include Jared Leto and Will Smith.

The theme of action movies continues as Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is also a movie in the process of production, with a grand budget of 200 million dollars. This is not only anticipated by comic book fans, but also fans of the star-studded cast. Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill are the main characters, Batman and Superman. After much controversy and skepticism of Ben Affleck as Batman, fan negativity has decreased as the release date comes closer.

Another awaited movie is Deadpool. Unlike all the other action genre films, the directors of this movie incorporated light humor. This film is about Wade Wilson’s hunt for the man who ruined his life after hefty government experimentation, which gifted him with some super-human qualities and the alter ego, Deadpool.

A movie that sparks the interest of people of all ages is Finding Dory. Although the first movie of the series, Finding Nemo, was released 13 years ago, it remains a favorite in the hearts of many. The sequel is the story of Dory, voiced by Ellen DeGeneres, and her adventure to find her parents.

One of the most successful franchise, both in novels and films, is the Harry Potter series. One could only imagine the happiness fans felt after the author, J.K. Rowling, announced the making of the film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Although the legacy of the other movies may be hard to live up to, fans eagerly await the release.

Last year’s biggest blockbuster was Star Wars Ep. VII: The Force Awakens. To add fuel to the already enticing line up of films, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, has been confirmed to release in December 2016. The new spin-off is about the resistance factions grouping in order to pilfer the Empire’s Death Star.

As the new year rages on, the list  continues to grow. Although some of the most anticipated films were mentioned, there are many others that are considered “highly anticipated.” Movies have been created and re-created over the decades, but only certain films leave us with distinct memories. The most important thing to remember when finding a perfect movie is to “just keep swimming.”
