Ways to Tackle Stress
Stress is a very common feeling in high school. From the college applications to the dread of final exams. Everyone has experienced some form of stress, a common solution has always been winter break. Students spend an average of 7 hours a day in school, which has become a large portion of our lives. It isn’t new news that students are constantly stressed with upcoming assignments. Even though a student is usually stressed all year long, certain chunks of time result in an all-time high. Stress levels are always changing, from finals week to the first week of school. Where students ease into the school year, we all have experienced it when homework hits you like a truck. Then you realize you have 4 hours before an essay is due at midnight.

5 Things to do to help with stress:

  1. A Somewhat planned schedule
Creating a schedule for assignment can go a long way especially for long term projects. Using time management skills you can create a flexible slot in the day for homework, tests, and sports.
  1. Don’t Forget to let loose
We all get carried away with the mountains of assignments and a massive to-do list but it’s healthy to take a well-deserved break. Read a book, go on a walk around your neighborhood enjoy some quality time with your family.
  1. Exercise
Exercise helps your overall health, it pumps a neurotransmitter called endorphins into your body. Endorphin is a feel-good neurotransmitter that helps reduce stress. Working out at the gym or going on a walk allows your body to relax. Setting aside 30-40 minutes a day can reduce stress drastically according to a Harvard University study.   4 .Create a brighter environment It’s winter, there is always a lack of sunlight because of the shorter days in the season. Our bodies usually crave daylight, so instead of sitting in a dim room. You could open up the curtains and/or blinds to get that little bit of sunlight while you do your homework.
  1. Turn on some tunes
Amongst the pile of homework stashed away in your bag, sometimes the easy way to complete it is with music. There are multiple ways to relieve stress, and the right kind of music can help. A researcher at Stanford University mentioned that "listening to music seems to be able to change brain functioning to the same extent as medication." Not only is music accessible but the right kind can change your mood the next time you start the dreaded math homework.   Using these 5 easy steps to ensure that your stress levels are at a minimum during winter trimester. Just remember to enjoy to weather even though it is slightly dreadful.
