A late comeback by the Apple Valley boys’ hockey team came up short against Rosemount on Thursday, as the Irish beat the Eagles 6-3.

“I thought the biggest difference was that they caused us to make mistakes, played aggressive, and they capitalized,” said Apple Valley coach Chris Sikich.

The Eagles led early in the game off Zach Loge’s 11th goal of the season, but the Irish tied the game on a powerplay at the end of the first period.

Rosemount scored early in the second period, but the Eagles countered with Jacob DeWall’s second goal of the season. Rosemount was then able to capitalize on a few errors by the Eagles and scored twice near the end of the second period.

Rosemount came out and scored again early in the third period to open up a three-goal lead. Forward Christian Undem was able to get the Eagles back in the game, but a late goal by the Irish stopped any chance of completing the comeback.

Rosemount outshot the Eagles 42 to 25.

“Just a lack of effort from everyone,” said DeWall. “Everyone’s gotta do the little things right, and we just fell short in that game.”

The Eagles’ will look to get on the winning side of their next couple games against Lakeville South at home on Saturday at 2 pm, and against Prior Lake next Thursday at home at 7 pm.
